The Garden Master Aerated Waste Water Treatment System(AWTS) is our environmentally-friendly Garden Master system, which closely mimics the natural waste treatment processes found in nature. Garden Master Systems have been approved by the Department of Health and comply with all required regulations and Australian standards. The Garden Master AWTS has been designed to function automatically and under normal conditions, the system will give years of reliable service.
5 Stage domestic sewerage treatment
Your Garden Master system uses 5 stages of domestic sewage treatment:
- A primary tank for the anaerobic(i.e. in the absence of air) digestion of solids; - A secondary tank where liquids are aerobically (i.e. in contact with the air) treated my means of aeration; - A biological filter where the aerated water is clarified; - A sterilisation stage whereby the clarified water is disinfected by means of chlorinating (to kill any remaining bacteria); - A nutrient removal process by means of transpiration and evaporation in your garden.
General description of the operation of AWTS
- Pollution-free lifestyle; - Safe, cost-effective, proven technology for on-site waste water treatment; - Scalable, modular construction with ample capacity for 10 persons

The Garden Master "Elite" AWTS has been designed as a compact, self-contained system designed to serve the needs for a domestic dwelling for up to 10 people. The technology is modular and completely scalable to allow for future expansion or even for varying needs such as caravan parks, sports facilities and various commercial installations.
The treatment process starts when the waste water leaves the kitchen, bathroom, laundry or toilets and drains into the treatment tank. Different bacteria present in waste water and sewage require different physical conditions to grow Some thrive when there is an absence of oxygen ('anaerobic') and others require the physical presence of oxygen ('aerobic'). The unique design feature of the Garden Master "Elite" System facilitates both primary and secondary treatment of the waste water through a sequence of special chambers where these processes carefully monitored and controlled.
The waste water first flows into the primary anaerobic treatment chamber which utilises bacteria to break down the solids which are removed from the liquid prior to further treatment. Here the solids separate from the water and form a sludge containing active bacteria which digest the incoming nutrients removing most of the solids from the effluent stream.
Next the liquid from the primary treatment chambers flows into the largest chamber in the system where air, in the form of microfine bubbles, is introduced as the liquid circulates through specially designed biological media surfaces which serves to further breakdown aerobic bacteria.
After aeration the liquid flows into a clarification chamber and emerges as a clear odourless liquid.
To further ensure that there are no remaining pathogens (bacteria harmful to humans) the water is then lightly dosed with chlorine to disinfect it prior to output to the irrigation chamber.
When the level of treated water in the irrigation chamber rises to a pre- determined level the irrigation pump starts and sprays the water in the form of fine droplets onto the selected garden area. This operation is fully automatic.
The volumes of the individual chambers have been designed to provide capacity to treat all household waste water output every 24 hours with adequate margins for safety and overload conditions.
Day to day operation
Once all your household drainage fittings have been connected correctly to your Garden Master system it can be used immediately subject of course to receipt of final approvals from your local council.
Normal operation of the Garden Master system is entirely automatic and any adjustments such as those to the master controller, the air supply or pumping equipment must be made by a Garden Master approved technician.
A beautiful green garden is an important part of the process!
After processing through the primary and secondary treatment stages the effluent from the Garden Master "Elite" AWTS is irrigated onto a dedicated section of your garden. This is where nature takes over and the selected garden shrubs and trees extract the remaining nutrients to further process the water before it finally returns to the ground water supply.
The placement of this section of the garden and its actual size will depend on the ability of your selected garden space to soak up and process the water processed by your AWTS. The landscaping requirements are essential because you cannot irrigate into barren soil and correct treatment requires that suitable foliage be planted in the drainage area. For this reason your Garden Master consultant will take into account the statutory requirements when completing the council application for your Garden Master AWTS. Your Garden Master consultant will then prepare an application to council for an approval to install your AWTS.
It is vitally important that your local council is consulted to ensure that your local Environmental Health Officer carries out a site inspection of the proposed irrigation area prior to the approval being granted.
"What is the level of after sales support?"
The Garden Master "Elite" System is fully automatic in operation. To ensure that it is always operating to maximum effectiveness it is essential that it is serviced according to the recommended schedule. Your Garden Master Consultant will advise of the service procedures and will also supply phone numbers for the 24 hour back-up service. If your Garden Master System indicates any fault we guarantee you will receive attention within 24 hours.
Quarterly maintenance
As we have already stated it is a fundamental condition that all AWTS are professionally maintained regularly by qualified technicians. Your Garden Master representative has been trained and will assist with these quarterly service procedures both during the first 12 months warranty period and then ongoing.
The quarterly maintenance service indicates the required procedures that must be carried out and you receive a copy (signed by the technician) after each service has been completed. Once the quarterly maintenance service has been completed, Garden Master will forward a copy to your Local Government Authority. |
